the 5Ps
In my opinion, these 5Ps are the fundamental mental models to understand the world and how it works, understand your loved ones, understand yourself, and others. The 5Ps are physics, programming, persuasion, psychology, and philosophy.
Here's how I fell in love with them...
physics -> my teacher, Sudeep sir (I just love that man)! He taught me how to think about the world and its basic principles. He was more than a physics teacher to me.
programming -> my teachers throughout schooling. Started programming in QBasic in 6th grade and our teacher Chaturvedi sir 🐻 used to make me solve the hardest problems and I used to think about it every single day. I still chase that Eureka!
persuasion -> was always an introvert (and still am) but realized that I needed to talk after I came to SG. "If you don't ask, you won't receive". If you need big eyes on your product, TALK!
psychology -> was always interested in it but peaked when I was dating my first girlfriend. Used to read her course material and MIT OCW lectures. Recently, I'm also interested in the effects of psychedelics on psychology but more on that in the upcoming blog.
philosophy -> was always interested in it. It was introduced by my parents in the form of religion but formed my own definition of philosophy over time. Came close during my depression. 'The School of Life' (both the book and YouTube channel) is my go-to and healed my depression. Have a friend with whom I discuss things while drinking. I love that man!
