Karma
कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन।
मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि॥
Bhagavat Gita 2.47
Even if you want victory, it is not certain that victory will be yours. You may also be defeated. But if you are not fascinated by victory, then you won’t be afraid of defeat. If you think about it, Partha, whether victory or defeat… but you are fighting only because it is your duty to fight… then the joy of victory and the sorrow of defeat… no question arises. And the One who is neither happy with victory nor sad with defeat, he is in a state of steady wisdom.
That’s why, O Partha, don’t just try to seek the results of your efforts or actions. You just do whatever is in your control. In other words, follow your duty. This is Karm-Yoga, Partha. Understand this mystery, Partha, that you only have the choice: to do or not to do. But at the end of karma, the limits of man’s authority come to an end. The result of karma is not in man’s control.
